Good to Go! — A Silent-e Reading & Spelling Game
NEW! Good to Go! — A Silent-e Reading & Spelling Game
Read it. Spin it. Toggle it. Match it!
Turn silent-e practice into an active game that combines reading, spelling, and a little bit of luck!
Good to Go! features 45 CVC word cards. Players read the word, spin the two-sided chip, and either keep the word as written or toggle the vowel sound by adding a silent e. Then they flip the card to reveal a picture and see if their word matches!
For example, kit might stay kit or become kite. The spin determines whether students keep the word as written or add a silent e, encouraging flexible thinking as they move between short and long vowel sounds.
Three Ways to Play!
1. Reading Play — Spin, Toggle & Match!
Read the word, spin the chip, and toggle the vowel sound based on the result. Flip the card to reveal the picture. Match the picture? Earn the card! If not, return it to the pile.
The first player to collect the agreed-upon number of cards wins! The element of chance keeps students engaged while providing repeated practice toggling between short and long vowel sounds.
2. Reading & Spelling — Earn Your Match!
Add a spelling challenge before earning each card! After matching the picture, students spell the word with the word side hidden, saying each sound as they write. If the word needs a silent e, they add it and verbalize the spelling pattern.
This optional challenge seamlessly integrates decoding and encoding into the same game.
3. Spelling Play — Start With the Picture!
Turn the cards picture-side up for a spelling-focused challenge! Students name the picture, isolate the vowel sound, flip the chip to the correct side, and spell the word, verbalizing each sound and the silent-e pattern when needed. Flip the card to check their spelling.
